Playing a tropical house track with Launchpad

Description:

For the composition, I made a tropical house style track. I knew that was the style I was going for, so I first created a beat, pretty simple 4 to the floor kick, clap on 2 and 4 with a prerecorded top loop sample. I then created a chord progression and put it to a rhythm. To develop a melody, I used a “random” technique by taking a pen and paper and drawing a line on it. This was completely free-form, and this was the very first thing I did to develop a melody. I made the melody follow the line I drew, thus implementing randomness into this project. The other concept I implemented into this project was interactivity using a novation launchpad. I exported the completed track as a .wav file and loaded it into a new Ableton set, chopped it up into samples and loaded them onto the launchpad. This makes it so that a specific pad is mapped to a sample(technically this is also mapping), and the sample plays when the pad is triggered. If I was provided with maybe another week for this project I might have been able to develop light effects for each sample, so that the final project includes a track and a light show, however, there simply isn’t enough time with my other classes for me to develop a light show. Also, I need more experience performing with the launchpad before I attempt something like that, however, I also plan to do it.

Feel free to check this out. I may or may not put stuff on it as I produce more music.
