Topics in Digital Sound Final Project

For my final project I made what is called a YouTube Poop. A YouTube Poop (or YTP for short) is a video that takes a source and edits it to essentially make it funny. Anything could be used as a source, including TV shows, movies, music, music videos, or just sound sources like a speech. Most YTPs edit video and audio, though there are some that exit that are just audio. (As a warning, in case you decide to look up some YTP, most YTPs you find on YouTube contain crude humor, but that is not essential for a YTP to be a YTP.) There is also a musical variety of YTP called YTPMV (or YouTube Poop Music Video) that can be with or without video. I did something similar to this idea in lab assignment 3 in which I took a funny video of some sesame street characters talking really slowly and set it to music and added effects.

Surprisingly, I thought of doing a YTP for this class because it actually involves a lot of the skills learned in this term. This idea came to my mind when I was doing the lab assignment where we edited out the mistakes in the WPI blurb. Needless to say there were some moments in Ableton where I happened upon a couple of funny moments in the editing process where it ended up sounding funny, and I really wanted to take this concept further. Things like sentence mixing (taking speech and editing it to say something else), audio editing, and effects are all a part of YTP and we learned how to get comfortable using Ableton to edit sounds and add effects and mapping.

My source material is the WPI blurb we used for lab assignment 2. I put these audio sources in Ableton and Audacity and created a hilarious sound file from them. A lot of sound editing was done, some other sound sources and images were added in, and then I put the whole thing into a movie so that I could add captions. This project was a lot of fun to make, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.
