Chris Bailey Final Project (MU 3620)
I feel like my best music came out when I was messing with samples from different songs during this course. I couldn't think of any novel ideas for a Max 7 project or creating a program to run some music, so I decided I'd work my butt off writing a piece using samples in creative ways. Thus, I came up with this piece titled "Straight Samples". I named it that because I couldn't think of a better name -- my only other idea was "Sleep", but that sounded cliche to me. This piece takes samples from other songs I've written between high school and now, FKi, Ralph Vargas & Carlos Bess, Reading Rainbow, and Jimmy Ponder. The rest is all midi tracks that I messed around with and one mp3 guitar track. The song came out to have 42 tracks, which was tricky to mix, but not the messiest thing in the world I've worked on. I wanted the whole thing to have a "this is the end of the show" feel, or rather a "this is the end of the term" feel I suppose.
