Akansha Pathak MU 2300 project - Creating and Indie Game Soundtrack

From vjmedia

The final project I worked on for this term was creating an original soundtrack to a hypothetical indie/sandbox style video game based on other sandbox games such as Minecraft and terraria. Each track is thematically linked to specific parts of sandbox games. These include mining, peaceful soundtracks related to the open world the player is exploring and farming, or otherwise exploring magical realms or fighting monsters. I will utilize a mix of acoustic instruments that I will record as audio files or create as MIDI files, mixed with electronic sounds such a synths and pads from the MIDI sound library in Ableton Love. The musical style of this album will be an indie soundtrack style. This means that the tracks may range from calm and peaceful soundtracks to occasionally faster paced songs as well. The technical component of this project is working with Ableton live which is a DAW producer from recording and mixing the tracks. I also used mixing techniques and explore automation and spatialization throughout the tracks to polish the final product. The skills I used for this project were basic music composition, proficiency with creating MIDI tracks in DAWs such as Ableton Live, and basic recording techniques for audio recording. The more difficult parts of the project include taking into account the acoustic to balance out the mixing more effectively and figuring out which audio effects to use for each midi track.
