Description:

"Have a Heart" is a piece derived from my own resting heart rate with the goal of being set to a very creepy movie or horror game. The idea was to create something that sounded very cold and heartless, with the irony being that it came from an actual heart. I mapped my average resting heart rate for part of the month of April (April 1st to April 17th, see the graph above) to midi notes (e.g. an average of 72bpm for one day would be C5) to create the main feel of the piece. The exact mapped data can be heard by itself during the first 30 seconds or so of the piece. The entire piece is supposed to feel like a descent into madness (thematically inspired by the short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allan Poe), and the drum kicks in the latter half of the piece are intended to mimic a heart beat.
