Nihal Bangaru MU2300 Final Project

What I intend to do: I intend on making a short musical track (like a beat to a rap or hip-hop song) using Ableton Live. This piece will first start off slow with a soul sample and maybe a violin or piano backtrack. After this, a pause or a beat drop will occur and a percussion beat will come in. The track will progress from there, utilizing audio effects and more instruments via MIDI. I am planning for this track to have a good balance between the slow/emotional part and the faster paced beat. My intended audience for this track (which could be anybody who enjoys music) are possibly singers/rappers/artists who need a beat to use for a song. What skills I have: The skills I already have for this project is the use of Ableton Live. Although I am not a master at using this software, I hope to keep learning new things as I go, but I will use the knowledge in which I have learned from the lectures and lectures for the most part. Also, creating a beat requires a good amount of creativity, which is an important skill for creating beats. What skills I don’t have and plan to learn: Since this will be the first “complex” beat I’ve ever created, I guess the main skill I don’t possess is the ability to properly mix sounds together to create a good beat. I plan to learn this skill by listening to various tracks (created by others) which resemble the one I am going to create to get some ideas. I hope to gain inspiration from artists who use tracks like this in their music so I can get a better understanding of timing, rhythm and what instruments to use and when to use them. What the deliverable will be: The deliverable will be an audio recording which will play the beat I intend to create.
