Do I Wanna Know Arctic Monkeys Guitar Emulation Chase Beausoleil
For my final project, I decided to record myself playing Do I Wanna Know by the Arctic Monkeys on my guitar. I recorded this into an audio track on Ableton Live, and downloaded the Guitar Rig vst to my computer. My goal for this project was to change the recording of my guitar to sound as close as possible to the main lead guitar in the recorded version of Do I Wanna Know. In order to do this, I messed around with the components accessible through the Guitar Rig vst until I believed my recorded piece sounded very close to the actual recording. The components of the Guitar Rig vst that I used to accomplish this includes multiple amps, a delay pedal, a noise reduction component, a reverb component, a filter, an equalizer, and a tube compressor. I continued working with this combination of components to make my recording sound closer to the actual recording by the Arctic Monkeys. Furthermore, I originally recorded a quick version of the song on my guitar just to have a recording that I could use to mess around with the Guitar Rig plugin settings, but once I tweaked the settings and discovered the desired combination of gain, compression, equalization, filtering, and more, I rerecorded the song to receive a cleaner version of myself playing. In this new and final recording, I also tried to copy the stylistic choices of Alex Turner, who is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the song. Finally, as one last additional touch, I added drums overlaying the entire song that closely resembled those played in the actual song (although I did not worry about getting these drums to sound exactly like those in the song because the drums were not the focus of my project). On this page is a video of my recorded project. Also, for copyright reasons, I have not included the actual recording by the Arctic Monkeys on this page for comparison.
