Kinnear has always achieved and there is a cerebral rigour to his acting work that you imagine he will bring to his writing debut. And yet, when he protests that his success is largely down to “being ordinary” I feel that I can’t really argue with him. After all, my initial impression was of an artless middle manager. Still, it will be interesting to see what does happen when Kinnear finally hits 40.
