The men were bald and pot-bellied, unshaven and running with sweat. The women were the same, big lasses who, when they got tipsy on the white wine, fell off their plastic shoes. Those who weren’t badly dressed were more or less nudists, and as the temperatures rose they went pink and blotchy and, finally, as red as cardinals.
