He returned from a twice-broken ankle on July 11, only to be sidelined with a quad injury sustained in the same game. On July 28 he was activated once again, but was placed back on the shelf four days later with a strained calf. While Girardi has repeatedly said Jeter has been making progress, he refused to set a date for his return.
