Perhaps as a result, ITV commissioned the similarly-structured Broadchurch, for an eight-episode first series. BBC One commissioned The White Queen. (The Village, another BBC One period potboiler, was billed as having a 42-episode arc right from the start – but was only commissioned for six episodes to begin with. Which, given how much improvement it needs before series two, was a wise decision.)
