What I did.
For my project, I pretty much made a composition based around a few genres of music I generally listen to. Specifically, I tried to make it based around sounds generally found Indietronica and Synthpop. It’s not so much of a song as it is more of a holistic example of everything we’ve done in class.
Why I did it. I’ve been listening to a lot of digitally composed music lately, and I think the whole process of self-producing music is really cool, so I figured I’d give it a try and hope for the best.
How I did it. I composed this project almost entirely in Ableton using a few different add-ons for different instrument sounds, everything that I used in my composition was original.
What was difficult? The most difficult part of this project was approaching it as someone who has a relatively shallow music background. I’ve never used ableton before, I don’t have any formal music training, so a large chunk of my time was spent figuring out the program, finding MIDI tracks that I liked, as well as making sure it didn’t sound entirely like an atonal piece of trash.
