"Leo's Song" by Cassava
This is a song written primarily by Leo Gonsalves with help/input from the rest of the band (Cassava). I was trained to use the Global Lab Recording Studio in Foisie, and all instruments were recorded in there using Bluebird cardioid condenser microphones. For guitar and bass, I put one mic in line with the speaker cone in the cabinet, with another mic facing the wall to capture the room/reflections. For drums, I placed one microphone directly above the center of the kit, and another directly in front of the kick drum. For vocals, I placed the mic slightly off-center in the room to avoid standing waves from reflections off the walls, slightly above lip level, and angled downwards.
This is a video of the process with the final mix. It's not great, but it's not awful. The main issue is that I recorded drums last, so it was difficult to keep everything in sync. It took a lot of Frankenstein-ing but this is probably as good as it's gonna get.
