For my final project, I created a Max patcher that reads text files (.txt) and plays music corresponding to the file contents. Additionally, this patcher allows a user to create simple drum loops to accompany the text files.

In order to create this patcher, I needed to have basic programming skills through Max 7. This included being able to convert keystrokes or the ASCII codes of characters in a text file to simple numbers, and knowing how to output MIDI messages to a synthesizer plugin.

Files

This folder contains the patcher, which requires a computer with the Kontakt synthesizer to produce audio. In addition are some .txt files and two sample MP3's. Test.MP3 is merely the notes matching the correspondingly named .txt file, while Twinkle Twinkle Experience.MP3 has a manually typed in intro and drums in addition to the playback of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.txt. Both MP3's are fairly quiet.
