Hello! I’m Kate Olguin, and this is my thing I made! It’s the torch song and overture for an original musical.

This musical is about Maeve, Finn, and Rose, three people whose souls have been sold to the god of darkness, Dorchas. Maeve sold her soul in exchange for fame and fortune, Finn sold his soul to protect his family, and Rose’s soul was sold by her mother in exchange for love. Because their souls belong to Dorchas, they are cursed to slowly turn into demons until they are finally summoned to join him in the underworld. After finding out that there may be something in their contracts that could release their souls, the trio sets out on a quest to figure out what that something is. At the end of Act 1, they are trapped by Dorchas as punishment for trying to break the contracts. Rose saves them, but in doing so tragically succumbs to her demonic affliction. Finn and Maeve, heartbroken over the loss of their friend, have an intense falling out. The song “Give Into the Darkness” is a duet between the two of them during this fight. Maeve wants them to continue researching, while Finn wants to go home and accept his fate. At the end of the song, they decide to go their separate ways.
Alternately, the overture is a combination of several themes that would be heard throughout the musical. It would be used as an opening piece to the first or second act of a musical, and as such is entirely instrumental and cycles through several musical ideas pretty quickly. Since “Give Into the Darkness” is the torch song of this musical, there are elements of that in the overture as well.

Kmolguin: The final Electronic Music Composition Project for Kate Olguin

For my final project, I wrote a theme for each of the main characters in a game I am working on. I tried to base the feel of the song on the characters' personalities. I also wrote a music for the major interactions between certain characters. The music for those interactions takes elements from the themes of both characters that are involved.

Below is the theme for Luna, the main character in the game. She's introspective and a no-nonsense kind of gal. I wanted her theme to be relatively dark and serious.

Below is the theme for Sol, her companion throughout the game. He's very cheerful and essentially has the personality of a puppy. I wanted his theme to a bit whimsical and fun.

Below is the theme for one of Luna's friends, Harrison. He's very calm and laid back, with little to no direction in life. I wanted his theme to be simple and jazzy.

Below is the theme for another one of Luna's friends, Deedee. She's nervous, but very kind. I wanted her theme to be simple, and a bit hopeful.
